We now have a new library website. We’ve been told that we will have a library blog and twitter feed announcing library events, exhibitions and new resources, etc!

Tour of Trinity - Sat, 28 Jan, 1pm

Historian, Queens’ alum and general charmer Doug Dennis will resume his termly tours this week with a jaunt around Great St. Mary’s and Trinity this Saturday, 28 Jan at 1:00pm. Spots must be reserved with me in advance. Hit reply stat!

Ceilidh at Christ’s - Tues, 24 Jan (meet at Queens’ plodge at 9:00).

Celebrate Burns’ Night with a proper ceilidh. Entry is a measly £1 and I’m told that the dancing room is adjacent to the bar…for rehydration purposes, of course!

Welcome back, kiddos! Another exciting term awaits you. Don’t let anyone trash talk Lent term. She’s the quiet, but loyal little sister you always wanted. She may not shine as brightly as Michaelmas, but she’ll walk around the mall all day with you until you find that perfect pair of jeans.

-First MCR formal of the term. Dust off those gowns and book your tickets stat!

Sat, 21 Jan, 9pm, Owlstone Common Room
-Chinese New Year Party! It’s the year of the dragon and with only 340 days left before Mayan prophecy reduces civilization to an apocalyptic hellscape, let’s make it a good one!

Also coming up this term….Burns’ Night, feasting, touring, masquerading, and an Oxford day trip! Stay tuned.

Cocktail Party in Old Hall!

The end-of-term is fast approaching! Save your panicky tears for exam week and don your finest for a swanky Christmas-y cocktail party in Old Hall on Sunday, 4 December from 7:30-10:00.

We’ll have a live jazz band and the finest selection of cocktails (no punch bowls or ladles in sight!). It’s the last large event of term and always a fine evening. And…it’s the cheapest happening in Old Hall, soo…

Tickets are £10 and must be reserved and paid for in advance. Friends, partners and all manner of acquaintances and colleagues are warmly invited as well.

Fine print: email me at kristen.klebba@gmail.com to reserve a spot. Tickets must be paid for by 5pm on Thursday, 1 December. Cash should be left with the porters while cheques should be made payable to ‘Queens’ College MCR’ and left in my pidge.

Bonfire Night!

This Saturday, 5 November is Bonfire Night. It’s a time to enjoy a glass of mulled wine, a mince pie and…burn an effigy of a seventeenth-century traitor! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guy_fawkes

Every year, the folks at 73 Maids Causeway host a bonfire night party after the Cambridge council’s fireworks celebration. The house is just steps away from the common. Here’s a map: http://g.co/maps/kudum

Here’s how the night will shape up:

7:30 – Fireworks display and bonfire lighting on Midsummer Common. Arrive by 7:00 for the best views. Expect mud, don appropriate footwear.

8:00-8:30 – Bonfire Night Party at 73 Maids Causeway! We’ll have the standard mulled wine and mince pies plus an array of other nibbles and drinks. We’ll ask for a £1 contribution. If you plan to stay awhile (and you’re certainly welcome to do so!), the 73 residents have asked everyone to bring their own bottle.

It’ll be the perfect way to spend a November evening!

It’s Halloween time, gang! Here’s what we’ve got:

Saturday, 29 October:

Halloween Party, MCR Room, 9:00-12:30, £4 Queens’/£5 all others

-Don your most creative/foolish/obscure costume and join us for a night of revelry. We’ll have unnaturally-coloured cocktails, prizes galore and enough Halloween candy to sate even the most sugar-addled five-year-old.

Sunday, 30 October:

Horror Films in Old Hall, 8:00-11:30, FREE

Old Hall will provide the backdrop to two of the finest horror films of our time. The evening will begin with Hitchcock’s Psycho and end with Kubrick’s The Shining.
