Cripps Doors Security – Friday May 7

From Robin Walker:

On the evening of the bop this week (Friday May 7th) we intend to put into trial the security system on the Cripps automatic doors.

This means that all Fellows, residents, and visitors to the MCR or Bar will need to carry their University Card throughout the duration of the bop (say, 9pm Friday to 1am Saturday morning) if they need to enter the Cripps staircases or the Bar through the automatic doors.

The procedure for operating the doors is:

1. Observe the colour of the indicator light on the proximity card reader. 2. If the indicator is red, place your University Card on the reader. 3. If your card is recognised as authorised, the indicator will turn green. 4. When the indicator is green, press the button to open the doors.

Only cards registered on the Queens’ security system will be recognised. If your card is not yet registered on the Queens’ system, please take your card to the Head Porter during normal working hours.

A side-effect of the security system will be that non-members of Queens’ will not be able to enter the Bar from Cripps Cloisters: they should instead use the doors to the conservatory in Lyon Court.

The doors will continue to open automatically to let people out.

The intention of this trial is to make it less easy for non-members of Queens’ to enter the private areas of Cripps Court. It is not the intention to make Cripps Court completely secure against unauthorised entry.
