In conjunction with the College, the MCR is hosting a dinner for members and their academic supervisors on Thursday 21 May, in the Old Hall. This will take place in lieu of normal MCR formal hall (we are working on having a replacement normal formal on another day: watch this space).
We are expecting a high turnout from College fellows, including the Vice President and the Senior Tutor. The President and Lady Eatwell have also been invited, and we are optimistic that they will be able to attend.
We therefore invite you to come to the formal with your supervisor. Supervisors will be guests of the College and the MCR (that is, we will pay for their dinners). We’ve arranged a very nice menu, and will be providing the table wine as well as pre-dinner drinks and after-dinner port.
In addition to your supervisor, you may bring one additional guest (a partner, or perhaps a friend from a different college also supervised by the same supervisor). The definition of ’supervisor’ here is loose, and includes advisors and other academic mentors (please be reasonable, though, about your interpretation of the word).
In the first instance we would ask that you only sign up on cashless if you are indeed intending to bring your supervisor.
These are the instructions for signing up (please pay careful attention):
1. Sign up as normal on cashless. The event is 21 May (Thursday) and listed as ‘MCR Supervisors Dinner’.
**Please tick the box saying that you would like your name to be shown on the guest list.**
Here you are purchasing dinner for yourself, and another guest if you’d like. Tickets are £10 for Queens’, £11 for guests (the meal is subsidized). The potential guest at this stage is NOT your supervisor, but another friend you’d like to come.
2. Once you have received your electronic confirmation,** forward it to me (jmh201)**, along with the following information:
a. Your supervisors’ name
b. His or her affiliation (College and Department) and academic relationship to you (supervisor, advisor, head of lab, etc.)
c. Any dietary requirements he or she may have
d. Your course and subject (to help us arrange the seating plan).
Once I have this info, I will add your supervisor’s name to our guest list.
We will begin the evening with a reception in the Old Kitchens. Dress code is smart (the usual for formal halls) and gowns must be worn by Queens’ members. Again, the MCR is providing the table wine.
Booking for the dinner will close at 12 noon on Monday 18 May, though I’d appreciate it if you’d book as soon as you can so that I have an idea of numbers.
Please direct any questions to me.
We very much hope to have high attendance at the event — which promises to be a very pleasant evening — and are interested in making it a regular part of the College calendar for future years. So please let’s make this year’s ‘test run’ a success!
All best, Johanna
