1) Recycling
House keeping have been complaining about people not recycling at some of the houses again. I’m sure you know the drill but there should be bins in all the kitchens/gyp rooms to separate things into:
Tins/Cans/Foil/Glass/Paper
Compost and any other food/Card/Envelopes(without windows)
Plastic Bottles
Other General Waste
I think most houses are doing this well now but if you haven’t been recycling please just take five minutes to find out how it works at your house. I’m told in college they resorted to removing bins from rooms which sounds a bit draconian and I imagine it could be a real pain.
Cheers.
2) Smoking
Was also asked to remind you smoking is not allowed on college property. This technically includes the back gardens and yards of the houses and house keeping have complained about finding cigarette butts at Panton Street. We’d just like to ask you to be sensible (and not that you’re going to smoke) but please don’t leave cigarettes lying around outside for them to find so there’s nothing for anyone to get upset about.
3) Internet
We continue to have discussions with college about internet charging. We did manage to find out that although they are going to continue to charge the top twenty users over the ten day periods for the time being there is a minimum limit of 2GB which they will not bill you for if you don’t go over.
You can monitor your usuage at https://register.quns.cam.ac.uk/ (seems to be down at the moment) or see the current top 20 . Aside from the obvious use of peer-to-peer programs like bit torrent, be very careful with any video streaming software or sites and also Skype (which continues to use your connection when you’re not using it to relay other peoples conversations so make sure you properly shut it down when you are not using it.)
