As of April 24, when Mr. and Mrs. Millward (Len & Shirley) retire,
Owlstone will no longer be on a warden system.

The college have decided to hire night porters, who will be on duty at
Owlstone every night of the week from 10 pm until 8 am. During the
week cleaners will be on premises for most of the daytime hours.

HOWEVER
The cleaners will not be around on the weekends. In the interest of
adhering to fire & safety protocol, though, someone on the Owlstone
Croft site will need to be ‘in charge’.

In conjunction with the MCR, the college have proposed that we find
students to cover these hours. Here’s what’s going to happen:

1. Four students, chosen by the MCR and the college, will be put on a
4 week rota system. (We don’t yet have a title for these positions,
and suggestions are welcome.)
2. Each of these students will be responsible for covering one weekend
shift (10am-8pm on Sat. and Sun.) every 4 weeks.
3. When on duty, these students will be responsible for liaising with
the college, dealing with lock-outs, fire alarms, elevator problems,
etc.
4. These students will be entitled to a reduction in rent of 25% off
of the average rent of an Owsltone room. In other words, every weekend
you work, that entire week’s rent is basically free.

We are going to trial the scheme over the summer, and to that end we
need to find (very quickly) four students who are willing to take
shifts, in exchange for the rent reduction, over the period April 24
until about 24 September (five months).

To be eligible you must
1. be a current Owlstone resident, and
2. continue to be an Owlstone resident throughout the summer months.

This is quite time sensitive, so I’m asking that I receive these
emails by 5 pm on Tuesday 14 April.

IF WE ARE NOT ABLE TO FILL THESE POSITIONS, the college will have to
hire porters for the weekend daytime hours, which will result in an
across-the-board room-RENT INCREASE for EVERYONE at Owlstone. So
please do take advantage of this opportunity to save a good deal on
rent — all you have to do is hang out at home in your jimjams for the
weekend!
