CHRISTMAS VACATION 2008-2009
1. The College will be closed and all gates locked shut at 17:00 on December 24 until 07:00 on 29 December 2008 and from 17:00 on 31 December until 07:00 on 1 January 2009. The Porters’ Lodge will be closed and there will be no porters on duty (and therefore no-one to answer incoming telephone calls to the main College number), nor will there be any porter sleeping overnight in College. 2. From December 10 to January 7 inclusive, in the interests of security, the Old Main Gate and the Dokett Gate may be locked for longer periods than usual, at the discretion of the Porters. The Old Main Gate will be open at least 13:45 – 16:30 each day for tourist entry/exit, except during the closures above.
3. Maintenance work might be carried out during the vacation to services in various parts of the College, as and when necessary. Disconnections will be advertised on the “Today” board in the Porters’ Lodge, but advanced warning may not always be possible. Some parts of College or Owlstone Croft may undergo maintenance during the vacation; this might necessitate changes of room even for those on the Quarterly Scheme. Hot water services within Cripps Building will be unavailable on Friday 2 and Saturday 3 January, whilst the plant machinery is upgraded.
4. There will be no domestic staff (bedmakers etc.) on duty from December 23 to January 4 inclusive.
5. There will be no maintenance staff in College from December 23 until January 1 inclusive. In emergency, a member of the maintenance staff may be contacted by the Porters. In the absence of the Porters, please telephone

6. The Wardens at Owlstone Croft will not be available on December 23 to December 27 inclusive.
7. The Bursary and Financial Offices will be closed from December 24 to January 2 inclusive.
8. Attention is drawn to the Catering and Conference Manager’s separate notice on Catering Arrangements for the Christmas Vacation.
9. Residents in College Houses or Flats must take appropriate frost precautions if the property is to be left vacant during any part of the vacation. This means: either keeping the house heated or turning off water at the main incoming stop cock and draining down the central heating system. Residents will be held liable if there is damage from burst pipes owing to freezing.
