Queens college is one of the oldest and best known colleges in Cambridge. By joining Queens’ you join a heritage of illustrious Queens’ history and distinguished alumni. The College campus captures the cultural essence of Cambridge with its old and new parts. The old buildings on the ‘dark’ side characterise the college with their charming medieval architecture while the new buildings on the ‘light’ side provide most modern amenities an active student life would need. The two sides are joined by the iconic Mathematical Bridge which probably is the most photographed landmark in Cambridge by the tourists.
Your years in Cambridge will probably the most memorable years of your life, thanks to a great student life full of activity and a bustling social scene. A prominent portion of the social life of students in Cambridge is centered around their colleges and the college hence plays an important role in providing facilities and services to students.
Queens’ students and facilities

Sports: The college has nice sports infrastructure with a mix of on-site and off-site facilities. A Squash court and Multi-gym keep you exercised during the winter months, while you can use college sports ground or boat house for your favorite outdoor sport. And yes, there are different sports clubs available.
Computing: College has a network infrastructure that allows you to access college computers or connect your own computer to the University network. Most college residences have ethernet sockets in each room to connect to the university network. Lapwing, university’s Wi-Fi network, is available at several locations on the college site. A computer room also is available on the main site with Windows PCs and Macs along with scanner and printers for students’ use.
Library: Queens has a well stacked library on the main site that has a good collection of books. Library is part of the network of university’s libraries and hence participates in book loaning services from other libraries as well.
Chapel: A beautiful chapel is on the main site with regular services during the term. If you are musically gifted, you can of course join the Queens’ graduate choir.
Healthcare: The college has a College Nurse on the site during the term. All students are covered by NHS’s free cover once they register for it at a GP. College will provide instructions for registration during the admission process.
Tutoring: Each student is allocated a tutor who will provide useful guidance in personal and academic aspects of your life at Queens.
Accommodation: Queens’ provides various types of accommodation suiting different needs of its students. The accommodation can be on-campus or at one of the college houses within Cambridge. Facilities and rent vary across the accommodations. Most post-graduate students are allocated an accommodation off campus. There are several flats in the town, owned by the college that are suitable for married couples. Accommodation is alloted using a ballot process.
Nursery: For students with young children, there is a nursery on the main site that operates during school terms. More details are available here .

Like other colleges affiliated to the University, Queens college operates under the collegiate system. To gain membership into Queens’ college, you would need to indicate Queens as one your choices for the college during your application process with the University. There is no separate application process for the college apart from the application through the university. Having Queens’ college as your first preference is highly advised to maximise your chances of an admission into Queens.
