Greetings Freshers!
For those arriving this week, a very hearty welcome to Cambridge! We have an exciting (if I may say so myself!) events schedule ahead.
When everyone has their @cam.ac.uk emails sorted, you will receive weekly ents updates from yours truly every week. In your inbox! Convenient, yeah? In the meantime, we’ll be posting to the facebook page and website, so stay tuned for updates.
Week 1:
Monday, 26 September:
Clues: noodles, noodles that arrive alarmingly quickly, unusually long tables, sugar-addled waiters that scribble on your placemat? Yes, that’s right….a group dinner at Wagamama awaits you! We’ll meet at 7:30 in front of the restaurant. Friends, colleagues, that guy in your math class are all warmly invited. The address is 36 St. Andrews Street. Map here: http://g.co/maps/d8cte
Wednesday, 28 September:
We had initially planned to do another film outing this Wednesday. That is now CANCELLED in favor of the final vacation formal in Old Hall. This is an exciting chance to dine in Old Hall before everyone arrives. Most formals are held in Cripps Hall which has about as much charm as a Soviet ballistics factory. Ok, maybe not that bad. I hear wood panelling is back. Anyway…tickets are available through UPay. If you’re having troubs setting it up (it’s super confusing, I know), contact Artur at mcr-steward@quns.cam.ac.uk. He’ll sort something out for you, no worries.
Thursday, 29 September:
Freshers arrive! Yay!
Friday, 30 September:
Friday afternoon: everyone will gather in the Fitzpat for the Graduate Tutors’ Meeting at 4pm. This is mandatory, but incredibly useful. You’ll get your Uni card, etc. Check your freshers pack for exact details. You’ll get to meet your tutor, the MCR committee members, purchase tickets to Freshers’ Week events and enjoy some nibbles and wine on the college. Impromptu pub outings ensue a bit later.
Saturday, 1 October:
Early risers, come to the MCR/Woodville Room for coffee, tea and pastries from 10am! We’ll be selling gowns and answering any and all of your questions. This is a great chance to meet people in a relaxed setting. And…eat lots of pastries, soo…
Things heat up a bit in the evening! From 8pm, join us for a wine and cheese party in the Woodville Room. This will be the first “real” event of Freshers week, where you’ll be able to mingle with both new and old members of Queens’. Around 11 (or whenever the wine runs dry…), we’ll take the party to a local club. This night is always a great time, so be sure to come along.
Sunday, 2 October:
It’s the end of a long week! Join us for a relaxing stroll through the University Botanical Gardens. We’ll meet at 1pm at the porters’ lodge. The gardens are incredible, so enjoy them before it gets too cold and wet!
In the evening, we’ll head to the Bath House for a pub dinner at 7pm. Meet at the porters’ lodge at 6:45, if you’d like some navigation help. The Bath House is very close to the Eagle on Benet Street. Map: http://g.co/maps/2tpcj NOTE: your calendar says we’re meeting at the Anchor. Scratch that, they’re closed for renovations until 8 October.
Okay…that’s Week 1 in a nutshell! Any questions, comments, what have you…I’m waiting with bated breath.
Kristen
