The events keep on coming! On the menu this week…
Wednesday, 19 October:
The Queens Arts Seminar, Erasmus Room, 7pm
Dr. Lorna Finlayson (King’s) ‘But What Would You Put in its Place? Norms of Constructiveness in Political Criticism.’ There is an expectation that political criticism should be ‘constructive’ rather than purely negative; this paper examines the assumptions often underlying this expectation.
Thursday, 20 October:
MCR Formal – Book now through UPay to avoid disappointment. Sherry served in QBar from 6:45.
Friday, 21 October:
College Guest Night – For all those who secured tickets, have fun, you lucky ducks! Everyone else…QEnts will be holding another bop in the Fitzpat should you fancy throwing some shapes.
Saturday, 22 October:
Historic Cambridge Tour with Doug Dennis, 1:30 – There are a few slots left, so get in touch soon if you’d like to come along.
MCR Quiz Night! QBar, 8:30 - Ok, you clever little things, it’s time to show us just how much useless knowledge you’ve acquired in your decades-long education. Prizes and accolades await you!
Sunday, 23 October:
Wine Tasting in Old Hall, 7:30-10:00, £10 – This is a fantastic opportunity to sample some rare and delicious wines amidst the finery of Old Hall. Sommelier and CU Blind Wine Tasting champion James Hutchinson will lead the group through a general introduction to wine tasting followed by generous sampling. It promises to be a great evening.
Reservations can be placed by email to me at kk450 or kristen.klebba@gmail.com. Non-Queens’ guests are warmly welcomed as well. To secure your reservation, you can leave payment (£10/ticket) in an envelope in my pidge or with the porters, if you feel more comfortable. Payment must be received by this Friday, 21 October at 5pm.

I hope everyone had an excellent weekend! Herewith this week’s ents schedule. Let’s hope something strikes your fancy.
Wednesday, 12 October
“Speed Meeting,” MCR, 8pm – Ok, so you kind of know a lot of peoples’ names and you’ve asked all of the perfunctory questions – ‘Where are you from?’ ‘What do you study?’ ‘Ohhh, that’s SO interesting!’ YAWN. It’s time to reallly get to know your college mates. You’ll get a list of questions and a few minutes with each person. Have you ever wondered if that MBA guy would rather have a cage fight with Steven Seagal or a lion? Now’s your chance. FREE wine and nibbles too!
Crofters, your moment has arrived! It’s time to liven up that place, yeah? Everyone else in college: c’mon, it’s actually not that far away! We’ll have drinks, nibbles and music. For the ‘gamers’ amongst you, I hear there’s a pretty awesome games table too.
Also on the docket…the second QEnts bop! Same deal as last time, but everyone must pay at the door.
It’s a full day, this one!
First, Day trip to Ely! Ely is a very short train ride away, yet many people never visit. It’s story book adorable and a fine example of a medieval cathedral town. Home of Oliver Cromwell, Ely boasts a storied political history. We’ll meander through the quaint streets, visit the Cathedral and maybe Cromwell’s house if there’s time. We’ll also stop by a pub for lunch. This event is in conjunction with Wolfson College, so it’s a great chance to meet other students.
You must sign up with me in advance. You can email me at kristen.klebba@gmail.com or find me around college.
Later in the day…
Ok, I know some of you have absolutely no idea what a ceilidh is. No matter! No one does. Even Scottish people don’t ceilidh very well! Everyone will look ridiculous and it will be very fun. This sassy grandad knows what it’s all about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?
Advance tickets are available from either Rob or me. £2 for Queens’/£3 for non-Queens. Ticket price will increase by £1 at the door.
This tour is epic and is one of my favourite freshers events. Dr. Walker has keys to places you never knew existed. There’s peepholes, alcoves and secrets galore! There is, to be sure, an actual skeleton in a closet. Spaces are going quickly, so reserve now.
