Welfare in Queens’ College operates to provide support for you on a wide range of issues. The MCR welfare officers provide a direct point of contact. We can signpost you to appropriate people and services within Queens’ and in the Cambridge healthcare system, and you can talk to us in confidence if there is anything that troubles you or if you just want to have a chat. We run fortnightly tea gatherings during term time, usually with a relaxed side activity, which provides an accessible way to get in touch with the welfare officers, and are a fun way to de-stress. Additionally, on a more irregular basis, we organise activities like gardening, walks, yoga, and meditation.
We provide free condoms and feminine hygiene products, which can be found in the welfare cupboard in the kitchen of the Woodville Room (MCR); you are welcome to help yourself (within reason). We also have a limited supply of free pregnancy tests, to be found in the welfare cupboard.
Queens’ Welfare Team
As well as your MCR welfare officer, the college has a highly trained and experienced team of welfare advisers, and a registered nurse. The Current Welfare Advisor is Rev. Tim Harling (Cloister 2, Cloister Court). The College Health Centre can be found in Cripps Court, between the BB and CC staircases. The College Nurse, Sister Alex Green, (Health Centre) is an experienced nurse who is able to support with a wide range of physical and mental health conditions, injuries and minor illnesses, give well-being advice and information and liase with other health professionals. Out of hours it may be possible to contact one of the Welfare Team through the Porters’ Lodge, or Duty Tutor, if deemed necessary.
