Below is a list of the graduate-specific sports and societies at Queens’. It’s rather limited at the moment, but you’re also welcome to join any of the JCR or University societies, which are fairly all-encompassing. If you’d like to have your own club listed on this page, please send an email to mcr-webmaster (@quns.cam.ac.uk).
Graduate Choir
Queens’ College Graduates’ Choir is a vocal ensemble specifically for current and recent graduates of the College. Around 25-strong, this choir performs a wide variety of music, from sacred motets to pop classics (one recent performance of The Lion Sleeps Tonight was especially memorable…). There are regular opportunities to perform in College – the MCR Dinner and Garden Party, and end-of-term parties in the President’s Lodge – and the Graduates’ Choir also sings occasional Compline services in Chapel. The Graduates’ Choir membership represent a broad rage of ages, subjects and singing experience, and emphasis in rehearsal is placed on improving as singers, exploring the choral repertoire, and having fun! Led by Madeleine Lovell, Queens’ College’s Director of Music (who is also a regular chorus master for, among others, the BBC Symphony Chorus and Philharmonia Chorus), the Graduates’ Choir meets every Monday from 6.30pm to 7.30pm. There are no auditions – all that’s required is a desire to sing (and the ability to make animal noises should the need arise…).

MCR Cricket
Queens’ College MCR cricket team has a decidedly laid back atmosphere. All skill levels are welcome, guys or girls, from absolute beginners to seasoned veterans. If you’ve never played cricket before, this is the perfect opportunity to come and have a go.
We play in the graduate cricket league, which is split into two groups of around 7 teams from other college MCRs. The winners and runners up of each group then enter the semi finals and so forth. The games are usually very chilled out and it’s a great way to spend a summer afternoon.
Net sessions and friendlies will be arranged closer to the start of the season. Depending on demand, one or two winter nets might be arranged too.
If you’re interested or have any questions, don’t hesitate to get in touch.

MCR Football
Queens’ MCR has a football team. The team competes in the MCR league, which has two divisions, and cup. Queens’ are currently league and cup champions, doing the double for the first time last season. Teams in the competitions are loosely affiliated to colleges, societies and departments. So, Queens’ could play on successive weekends against Jesus (the old enemy!), the Hellenic Society, and Zoology. We are always on the lookout for new players: this season many of the starting XI have been Queens’ members and it would be great if the proportion increased further! We play our home games at Queens’ sportsground on Barton Road and most of the away games are played in other colleges.

Queens’ College Contemporary Dance Society
Queens’ College Contemporary Dance Society is an excellent way to explore dance without even having to leave college! Queens’ are very lucky to have professional dancer in residence Adele Thompson who teaches the society’s classes. Adele studied at Cambridge University and London Contemporary Dance School and works as an independent dancer, choreographer, stilt artist and teacher.
Contemporary dance technique classes are held every Friday during term time at
Fitzpatrick Hall:
Beginners – 2:30-4pm
Intermediate – 4:30-6pm
On Saturdays there is a creative choreography class:
Open class – 10am-12:30pm
There is no membership fee and classes are free for members of Queens’ College. The society hold an annual performance ‘Sprung!’ at the end of Lent term offering the opportunity for students to bring their own choreography to a friendly audience. The performance is always very successful and well received. There is also the opportunity to get involved in the committee who help with the general running of the society and organise ‘Sprung!’ This is a great experience and offers the chance to develop new and existing creative and administrative skills.
